2. Pidapipó Gelateria

This colourful ode to artisanal Italian-style gelato conjures up flavours from watermelon sorbetto to coconut and macadamia. Make your way past the store’s Nutella fountain and the gelato cake menu from banoffee to Neapolitan bombe Alaska and prepare to order. Scoop up your faves at one of three Melbourne locations.

3.Little Cupcakes

Think up a sweet cake flavour, and there's a good chance Little Cupcakes on Degraves Street will have it. Sink your teeth into fluffy red velvet cakes with cream cheese frosting or a classic chocolate delight with whipped chocolate buttercream. Grab one as an afternoon treat, or indulge with a full dozen.

4. La Belle Miette

5. Mörk Chocolate

Molten chocolate, cinnamon buns and baked treats are this Scandi-inspired hot chocolate store’s staples. But while ethically sourced hot chocolate is their specialty, you can also get your coco fix from their chilled chocolate milk or chocolate Mörkshake at the Queen Victoria Market, Centre Place and three other locations across the city.

6. Tori’s

Try this self-proclaimed sweet escape from the city buzz tucked between Lonsdale and Little Bourke Streets on Niagara Lane. Go for Asian-inspired cakes and desserts, which nod to Japanese flavours, and pair with hand-whisked matcha lattes or iced teas. Preorder is also available.

7. The Cookie Box

There are cookies and then there are these New York-style confections loaded with nuggets of dark, milk and white Belgian chocolate. This Chapel Street store tempts you in to choose from their oven-fresh selection, which you can handpick or order online.

8. Lune Croissanterie

Maybe the most coveted croissants in Melbourne, these buttery beauties are in demand and worth the queue, so for the love of flaky pastry get in line for croissants, cruffins and more. For crullers – deep-fried New York-style donuts – get to Moon Cruller which orbits its older sibling Lune Croissanterie on Fitzroy's Rose Street.

9. LuxBite
