Overview
Create your own legendary bush adventure by experiencing the vast expanse of the Victorian outback by 4WD. While no 'off-track' driving is permitted in the outback national parks to protect the natural landscape, there is a vast network of rugged dirt tracks for the adventurous explorer. Bring your own car or hire a vehicle in one of the major towns in the north-west of the region such as Mildura or Swan Hill.
Start your 4WD journey with a three day River Red Gum Drive. Look out for native wildlife and hold on to your seats as you cross the Murray River floodplains. Wind your way through forest trails, past serene sandy beaches, lagoons and internationally recognised reserves.
Before you start your Victorian outback adventure, note that preparation and experience driving on rough terrain are essential. Make sure you obtain maps with safety and interpretive information from a visitor information centre in Mildura or Swan Hill before you depart.

Be surrounded by the dramatic views around the 33-kilometre crescent of the Walls of China in Mungo National Park. Part of the World Heritage area of Willandra Lakes, the sand dunes are caused by erosion sculpting the sand and clay into dramatic formations.
