Dramatic scenery
From windswept beaches, eucalypt forests, snow-capped mountains, rolling green hills or fields littered with wildflower blooms, Victoria has a wealth of backdrops and a range of experienced operators to make your riding excursion an exhilarating one.
For the most spectacular scenery, head to the High Country in the state’s north-east. You can ride the West Kiewa, trek the plateaus of Mount Fainter, and explore heritage huts and wild brumby country. For beach riding, head to Warrnambool or the Mornington Peninsula. You can ride horses right in the surf, then finish the day with fresh seafood and great wine.
Into the bush
If rivers and sun-dappled bush are more your speed, try the Howqua Valley. There’s an epic two-day guided tour that runs along bridle trails, exploring the creek beds and gullies of the Howqua. It’s about as close to a Banjo Paterson poem as you can get.
